Excess SunWater CAP entitlements go up for tender
IT CAN now be announced, that the Balonne Shire Council will put excess SunWater CAP entitlements up for tender to raise income for council infrastructure.
Ahead of the budget set to be handed down later this year, Mayor Richard Marsh said this would not impact on the Shire's water allocation to residents, but could potentially provide a substantial source of income.
"Council's SunWater Supply Scheme CAP will reset to 100 per cent on July 1, so it makes financial sense to sell some of the access for the benefit of our residents,” said Cr Marsh.
However, Mr Marsh also said that council will not just give away the water access, nor will it effect current water allocations.
"If Council feels the price offered for the CAP is not fair, we will not sell.
"I want to assure residents that this will have no effect on them as Council also has a water allocation from the Beardmore Dam which supplies residential requirements.
"We are not selling water, but merely the access to the entitlement of SunWater CAP, Council does not need in the next three months.
"If we sell the excess CAP we will still have more than enough.”
