THE only way to go is up and Remolea Poll Herefords principal Hilary O'Leary says he is pleased with results from his annual bull sale this week.

Despite a tough year, Cyclone Debbie brought much-needed relief to the Southern Downs grazier's Clifton property.

"Since Debbie we've been going okay," Mr O'Leary said.

"Although we didn't get to finish our bulls on oats this year - Debbie wiped them out.

"But we've had a decent amount of rain in the past few weeks with totals of 8, 42, 11 and 50-60mm falls."

The O'Learys offered 43 bulls at their fourth on-property sale on Monday, selling 41 for an average price of $5951.22, with a 95% clearance rate.

Stand out bulls included Lot 5 Remolea Ledger L024 (P) who topped the sale at $14,000, bought by The Robin Bruggemann Family Trust of Taroom, Queensland.

Mr O'Leary's comments in the sale book about Ledger described him as a trademark son of sire Bowen George G25 (P) who displayed length, growth and easy doing characteristics. He was the first calf of Remolea Favourite H127 (P) and would suit heifer joining. Ledger had above average IMF, rib and rump fats EBVs, 98% homozygous polled.

Lot 4 Remolea Lager L062 (P) sold for $12,000 to PT & RG Alexander, Shannon Vale, New South Wales.

Lot 6 Remolea Logan L42 (P) also sold for $12,000 to G & H Scurr of Tahlan Poll Herefords, Texas, New South Wales.

Lot 2 Remolea Leroy L056 (P) sold for $10,000 to Wal-Anne Poll Hereford Stud of Haden, Queensland.

Buyer Chris Kemp of Eungy Pastoral Company from Blackall was the stand out volume buyer of the day, taking home eight Remolea bulls for a total of $36,500.

In 2016 Mr Kemp bought four.

JD & SM James also took home four poll hereford bulls.

During the opening of the sale Mr O'Leary said they were continuing to enjoy a solid cattle market.

"Testament to this is the firming of the American market of late and continued strength in both chilled beef and live exports," he said.

All Remolea bulls were sold with BREEDPLAN figures and were scanned for carcass EBVs.
